Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescoping booms lifts are designed to mount a work bucket on a straight, extendable arm that is situated on a rotating turntable. Normally, telescoping boom lifts are used for jobs that need reaching at maximum height, exceeding other kinds of lifts. Like for example, workers could carry out exterior repairs or renovations on buildings of medium height but using these lifts rather than having the additional work of setting up a pulley system or an outside elevator.
The boom lift bucket normally just holds one employee. These buckets are more suited to particular tasks like for instance electrical repair, as opposed to general maintenance or window washing. These lifts are offered with both indoor and outdoor tires and are available in gas or electric configurations.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are named for the cross-braces beneath the work platform. These braces squeeze together in order to push the platform straight up. Since these types of machines must be positioned directly below the work site, as opposed to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
Scissor lifts do, however, provide bigger platforms that enable the operator controlling the lift to access a larger work surface when the lift is raised. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of an issue with these types of machinery, as they need to sit on flat ground in order to be utilized. Scissor lifts are ideal for being utilized for cladding or window installation, because they provide the workers with the desired mobility; they are also a great choice for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The cherry picker or boom truck refers to the utility vehicle often utilized to raise personnel for different jobs performed at heights. Generally, these types of trucks have a cab. It is here where the driver sits and operates the equipment. There is a bucket for where the employee could stand as well as an actuator arm for lifting the boom and a winch for lifting.
Cherry pickers can lift workers up to heights that were previously inaccessible. The cranes function is to raise both heavy materials and equipment for one place to another. There are a variety of different crane types that can perform various purposes. Both of these different types of equipment excel at various jobs and are suitable for certain applications and finishing particular jobs.
